The Port of Newport proposed that Siletz Bay be developed "for commercial navigation purposes by the Federal government. Desired improvements included a north jetty, channel dredging, a turning/mooring basin, and breakwaters. The proposal was unsuccessful. This document includes some of the history of shipping from Siletz Bay, including tonnage shipped in and out of the bay from 1923-1939. Good fishing industry and paper industry (wood chip) statistics from the 1960s.
